Exhibition Space

On wednesday me and the group had a small meeting at the exhibition space in Manchester.
It was the first time i'd even seen the place so I didnt really know what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised. There is ample, quality space with an interesting layout that we can work with.
Some of the space had already been assigned, i.e Alex is intending to display huge A0 images, and therefore is most certainly suited to the main room with a lot of wall space.

Here is a rough sketchup of the space and the plans of usage at the moment. There is a definite sense of journey as you walk around the space, and I believe the connections between our work and the journey that it takes around the space will be effective and is a good use of what we have. The current plan is to use the corridor at the bottom as a dark corridor, and Joes room will be displaying light boxes. My work will be hung in the middle of the room and Alex will have huge images hung from the cieling.
As well as curating our own work in the exhibition, the space has been opened up for people wanting to display from the other two projects, for which in turn we need to curate and connect ourselves. Susie, Constantin and Hayley came to this meeting for a discusion about the space and how it will be used. It was established that the work susie was using fit well into the main room, along with the work that Alex is producing. Unfortunately there came to be issues when discussing Hayleys work. With such a tight nit sense of theme and journey between the space and works, it was difficult to find a space that suited Hayley's unique works. There is the possibility of using the downstairs space, but it is quite out of the way, and is completely seperate from the group. It was established that the work would not flow right within the journey and would have to be used either on its own or with another similar photographer. It is unfortunate given the amount of work that is evident in the project.

We will be visiting the space next week to take draft prints of our work, so that we can further investigate the space.

There are numerous tasks that were discussed within the mini tutorial afterwards, such as leaflets, logos, fundraising, food and drink, websites and facebook advertising.

I will post updates for this list as they come together.
